Podscope FAQ
Podscope Frequently Asked Questions
What is Podscope?
Podscope is the first search engine that actually allows you to search for spoken words within any audio or video file. We’re starting with podcasts and will be adding all types of multimedia in coming months.
How does it work?
Just like any other search engine. You enter a word or phrase in the input box, and we’ll show you a list of results. By clicking on the (+) sign next to each result, you can select snippets of audio to help you decide whether to listen to the whole podcast or even subscribe. If you know about Search Inside the Book, that’s what we do for audio/video.
No, I mean how does the technology work?
Well, we could tell you, but then we’d have to… Um, magic.
Wow, this is cool. But sometimes my search term does not match what I hear. Why is that?
Just as you have been asked, “Pardon me?” or “Could you repeat that?”, we too misunderstand some of what we hear. We’re working on it though, and we promise it will get better every month.
My complex search isn’t returning any results. What’s going on?
Supporting complex boolean searches is tricky when dealing with audio files. We do plan on providing boolean search capabilities, but we want some community feedback on how it should behave.
I clicked on the play button, but I don’t hear anything?
We will play about 10 seconds of audio surrounding your matched search term. We are using Macromedia Flashâ„¢, which should have come installed on your computer, to stream the audio snippets. To download the latest Flashâ„¢ player, go to Macromedia
What is your privacy policy?
We respect your privacy and our policy is located here http://www.tveyes.com/privacy/index.htm.
Will you index my podcast?
Sure! While we are constantly crawling the web for audio/video content, you might speed up the process by letting us know about you. Just go to http://podscope.com/submiturl.php to enter the url for your site’s RSS feed and we will include your podcast in our listing. Please be patient, we have received a lot of requests since our announcement on April 11, 2005.
How do I remove my podcast from your listing?
This really isn’t a faq at all, it should be on our raq (rarely asked questions) page. But if for some reason you do not want to be discovered through Podscope, just go to http://optout.podscope.com for instructions. Please allow several weeks.
Note:
The add and remove links will be ready really soon!
